SUMER: The origin of an ancient script provides clues to understanding the history of past civilizations, the changing appearance and varying shapes of the characters showing their development over time. The Sumerian Cuneiform Script, believed to be the oldest script in the world, was originally used to record commercial activities on tablets of clay by the Sumer - the earliest known civilization in the world, based in South Mesopotamia over 5000 years ago. The script was recorded by pressing stamps against clay tablets. The cuneiform writing system was developed from the Sumerian language. Lasting several centuries, the script found use in many languages, the Akkadian and Eblaite languages for example. More importantly, the cuneiform script has contributed to the formation of various alphabets around the world, including Arabic and Hebrew. A tribute to the language of one of the oldest known civilizations of the world, the Sailor Sumer captures significant engravings from the time of the Sumerians. The cap is designed with a cylindrical impression from around 3000 BC and features an engraving of Ur-Nammu,a significant ruler reigning around 2100 BC. The barrel is engraved with part of the law code of Hammurabi (1792 - 1750 BC), an ancient Babylonian king. Crafted in sterling silver, this fabulous writing instrument features a ?Naginata Togi? solid 21 carat gold nib with rhodium plating, specially produced by nib master Nobuyoshi Nagahara, fitting tribute to the legacy of the Sumerians.Limited to 388 precious writing instruments worldwide.
