Types of Fathers: The Chaos Wrangler

Posted on May 29, 2020

Taxonomic Classification: Organus extremus “Organising is practice, not a project.” – Meagan Francis

Whom do you call when you forgot to write down the deadline and now your project is due in five minutes, or your house is a mess and you have (important) people coming over for dinner?

Not sure, but if you have a chaos-wrangler dad, you do not call him. He’d have no clue, for this would never happen to him. If you grew up in his household, you were never late and you probably know how to fold a fitted sheet.

You hated his borderline OCD as a teenager, but now you’re winning at life because of him.

This certified professional organizer (CPO; yes, that is an actual job!), cannot abide by clutter and will never take a cleaning-shortcut. Your wife loves having him at home, and you’ve probably heard a few unflattering comparisons with you being made (especially during the lockdown). Your mother refuses to travel (or pack) without him, and Marie Kondo wants to grow up to be him.

This dad-type is characterized by his love of designated areas, standard operating procedures, and checklists. He always volunteered to help you clean up your messes and you grew up in a secure, stable environment. You learned the meaning and value of discipline early on, and this has brought you much professional (and personal) success. He taught you to save for a rainy day and thanks to him you’ve weathered these last few months with aplomb. Call him on Father’s Day and thank him for making you the accomplished adult you are.
